India's premier paper folding competition - open to every folder, at every level. Any model. Any style.
Philosophy
"Great origami is not about making more folds. It is about making the right ones." — VAGH 2026 Competition Philosophy
The Society of Indian Origami Artists Competition was created with the belief that origami should remain both accessible and respected as an art form.
This competition is not designed solely to reward complexity or the number of folds in a model. Instead, it aims to recognize the qualities that truly define strong origami work: precision, cleanliness, thoughtful shaping, presentation, patience, and folding maturity.
Participants are free to fold any model of their choice, whether simple or highly complex. A beautifully folded traditional model can stand alongside an advanced technical work if it demonstrates refinement, care, and strong execution.
Our goal is to create an environment where folders of all skill levels feel welcome to participate without intimidation. Rather than encouraging unnecessary complexity for the sake of competition, we hope to encourage artistic growth, discipline, creativity, and appreciation for careful craftsmanship.
This competition also values honesty and authenticity. Origami is a physical art form built through patience, decision-making, and human effort. Because of this, submissions should represent the real folded work as accurately as possible.
Beyond awards and rankings, the competition aims to contribute toward building a stronger and more connected origami community in India. We hope this platform encourages more artists to share their work, improve their skills, exchange ideas, and help origami gain greater recognition as a serious artistic discipline.
This is only the beginning of a larger long-term vision: creating meaningful opportunities, recognition, and community-driven growth for origami artists across the country.

No. To ensure absolute accessibility for folders across all regions of India, the first edition is completely free to enter. Optional community donations are welcome to support physical trophies, medals, shipping, and digital platform development.
Yes. You may submit models designed by other creators, provided you clearly attribute the designer. Execution, folding cleanliness, and shaping will serve as the core metrics of judgment.
Any style of paper is allowed, from standard kraft and kami to complex multi-layered sheets, handmade tissue foils, or custom composite papers. The paper choice should ideally match the structural demands of the model.
No. For this inaugural edition, the competition is strictly open to artists currently residing within India. As this is a free-to-enter event, this geographical boundary is put in place to manage operational logistics and mitigate excessive shipping costs for physical prizes and certificates. NRI and international folders are not eligible for this cycle.
No. To keep evaluation strictly standardized, only single-sheet paper folds (models created from one uncut sheet of paper) and single-sheet geometric tessellations are permitted. Multi-piece modular assemblies, composite units, and multi-sheet models are ineligible for this edition.
There are no strict size restrictions. However, your model must be documented clearly. The paper choice and scale should complement each other; extremely tiny or overwhelmingly large models must still clearly demonstrate precision and clean shaping in their photographs.
Submissions must be credited to the individual who folded the model. If a model is a collaboration (e.g., one person designed it and another folded it), it is permitted as long as the folder is the primary entrant and full design credits are explicitly stated.
Yes. Artists retain full ownership of their work. By submitting to VAGH 2026, you grant the Society of Indian Origami Artists (SIOA) the right to display your photographs on our official website, magazine (VIDHANA), and social media channels for showcase and archival purposes, with full credit to you.
Image & Editing Policy
As this is an art competition, submitted images must represent the actual folded work as accurately as possible.
Every fold counts. Open to all levels, all styles, all corners of India. No prerequisites... just paper, intention, and art.
